I would have liked to spend more of Friday’s class talking about the life of Fu Hao as recreated by Haapanen. I am not very familiar with the methods and processes behind writing a biographical portrait like this. Also, there is a decent amount to be learned about Shang culture and ideas of gender, death, sickness, and war that are displayed here. I would like to know more about how such a graphic story was constructed around the sparsely worded oracle bones.
